How to check your camera inside Google Meet

  1. Use the Meet green room. When you open a Meet link, Google shows a preview with your camera and microphone before you join.
  2. Check your audio and video. On the join screen, choose Check your audio and video to test your camera, mic and speakers.
  3. Pick devices in Settings. In a call, open More options (⋮) > Settings > Video to switch cameras or change the send and receive resolution.
  4. Watch the tile crop. Meet fits people into tiles, so the sides or top of your picture can be trimmed. Keep your face centered.

Google Meet camera questions

How do I test my camera on Google Meet?

Open this page and press Turn camera on to see your picture cropped like a Meet tile. In Google Meet itself, open your meeting link and use the preview, or choose Check your audio and video before you join.

Why is my camera not working on Google Meet?

Meet runs in your browser, so the browser needs camera permission. Click the camera icon in the address bar and allow access, and quit other apps using the camera. If this page works, Meet should too in the same browser.

Does Google Meet mirror my video?

Your self-view in Meet is mirrored, but other people see you unmirrored. Turn off Mirror self-view on this page to see yourself as they do.

How can I look better on Google Meet?

Face a window or lamp, raise your camera to eye level, and sit about an arm's length away. Use the eye line on this page to put your eyes about a third of the way down the frame.
